I am a Second-Degree Black Belt with more than 15 years of experience in traditional Shorin-Ryu Okinawan Karate. As a social worker for the past 17 years and teacher of karate for the past 6 years, I have helped many people reach their goals. I teach privately or in groups. I can help you and your family to learn the techniques of karate not only from me but from each other through shared activity and teamwork. In addition your family “team” will gain high levels of fitness.
Karate has become my passion. Why do I say this? Because it’s not just about building a strong body. It’s also very much about personal growth and development and opening up new opportunities to move forward. You are always trying to perfect your karate skills but you never quite get there. Perpetually trying to reach the summit but always being a few steps a way. Making karate part of your life will be a very humbling experience.
A typical session will consist of meditation to clear our minds and prepare us for the training to come. We will then commence with a series of warm-up exercises to warm the muscles and open-up the body. Then we will work on basic karate techniques, which will begin to help you develop a strong foundation for more advanced techniques and training down the road. The majority of our session will consist of the practice of Kata (an organized series of blocks, punches, kicks, and strikes in a geometrical pattern against an imaginary opponent). The practice of kata will help you develop superior strength, reflexes, balance, and coordination. You will become stronger than you ever have before. We will finish with a cool-down, stretching and meditation.
We are located at 115 W 128th Street (Between Lenox and 7th) in NYC
